Horse jitters

My own experience with neem oil

Tried dozens of remedies on my horses but was disappointed every time. I also prefer to go for a naturally based product that is always best for your horse.

Summer eczema or tail and mane eczema is a very annoying condition. If the horse or pony has developed this type of allergy, the animal will never get rid of it. It is therefore important to make the living conditions for the animal as pleasant and optimal as possible by making adjustments.

Now, I do have to be honest and say that it is best to start early. Starting a product early in spring is preferable. That way, you avoid scuffing up to wounds.

Several years ago, my stablemate alerted me to try neem oil. Massage a thin layer into the skin for three weeks. My Friesian suffers extremely from summer eczema and I had already adjusted his feed with as little sugar as possible. The vet had already visited and given him an injection. But unfortunately all that was not enough. He kept chafing especially when he was put out on the Veluwe.

All I can say is that after three weeks of rubbing his skin looked very calm again and the rubbing had stopped. I did have to keep rubbing it in several times a week because it was just extreme with him. How happy I was to have finally found something that would help my horse.

The best thing is to prevent skin irritation such as itching. In case you started too late so not in spring. The best thing about neem oil is that if the horse chafes, the neem oil can stop the chafing and heal wounds.

Neem oil, Azadirachta Indica, is pure and unprocessed. A natural product based on 100% pure organic oil. Great for skin problems in animals.......

Neem oil helps against, among other things: Summer eczema, mites, incipient mug, itching, ticks.

Features:  Anti-inflammatory, itching, heals and cares for wounds, soothing.

General Use Neem oil:

I often get the question of how much should you use? That's really hard to say because it depends on the severity of the skin irritation. Usually, you don't need to use much because you need to apply thinly. Anyway, do not dilute the neem oil but use it pure.

Shake neem oil well before use. Start by applying a thin layer once a day (massaging it in) between the mane and tail on the skin where it is being rubbed. Do not expect results immediately after a few days. The neem oil must be given a chance. As soon as you see the abrasion decrease and the skin improve, see if you can skip a day and phase it out. Exposure to sunlight, around the eyes is safe, only it is advised in extreme high temperatures to apply the Neem oil in the evening. Store the Neem oil in a dark place where there are few temperature fluctuations.

Instructions for use in summer eczema:

For the first three weeks, rub/massage the skin every day on the areas where the horse chafes. Even then, do not wash out the oil. After that time, see how the skin has recovered and in what sizes the horse still chafes, if any. Most horses then stop shedding and regain beautiful manes and tails.

Still rubs a lot: continue rubbing in every day for a while longer

Still rubs nicely: keep rubbing it in every other day for the next two weeks

Minimal abrasion: lubricate the Neem oil a few more times a week.

Summer eczema is very persistent. It really needs some time. Lubrication will be less and less necessary and the results better, with the exception. Usually anyway if the horse has really extreme eczema he will still need to be lubricated several times a week spring/summer. Also make sure you feed the horse feed that contains as little sugar as possible.

At mite:

As soon as your horse starts stamping his leg again, wash him with green soap. Take very small amount of Neem oil on your hands and rub your hands for a while so that the oil spreads well. Smear the oil over the horse's leg with both hands.

Starting mug:

If the mug has only just started, it is best to just use Vaseline. Is it a bit more advanced? Then spread Neem oil on the scabs...... This will take away the itching and heal the wounds.

In spring and summer, the warmth keeps the neem oil thin but in winter, there is a chance of the neem oil thickening due to the cold.

TIP: Put the bottle under tap with warm water or in a bowl with warm water (not hot water) to dilute the oil again.
